STIAS was established in 1999 to provide a ‘creative space for the mind’, a fellowship programme that would advance cross-disciplinary research at the highest level. Modelled on similar institutes internationally, STIAS is the first of its kind in Africa. Here, leading researchers and intellectuals worldwide are supported to think innovatively and pursue sustainable strategies for the world’s challenges, focusing on Africa. STIAS provides ideal conditions for innovative, original thinking on what we currently regard as good business sense and to reflect on how mindsets and business practices have changed over the years. The Department of Business Management, Stellenbosch University, look forward to hosting the 35th annual SAIMS conference at STIAS.
